Ride of Silence

In honor of the International Ride of Silence, we are hosting a local rolling memorial for the community members who have been killed and injured on our roads while biking, due to traffic violence. This critical mass ride will cover main corridors of the peninsula, highlighting areas with both scheduled and needed safety improvements. This is a signature Charleston Moves event that embodies the urgent nature of our advocacy, and we sincerely hope you will participate.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING PRIOR TO THE RIDE:

1. Completing our waiver is a requirement to participate in the ride. Please fill it out ASAP HERE.
2. We will start promptly at 6 pm; you must arrive no later than 5:50 pm to check in.
3. The ride will begin and end at Palmetto Brewing Company (289 Huger Street, 29403). The route is ~5.2 miles and should take ~40 minutes to complete. Before committing, be aware of this distance and that we will ride on major downtown streets.
4. We will have a police escort. This ride will be casually-paced, but we must stay together for the escort to be effective. Unless you have a mechanical issue or the group is obeying a traffic law, stopping during the ride is not permitted.
5. For the safety of all, children under 12 must ride attached to a guardian, not on their own bike — consider a trailer or tandem bicycle. Pets are not allowed on the ride.
6. We strongly encourage you to ride your bike to the event. For those who need to drive, there is parking adjacent to the building and under the I-26 overpass along Huger Street.
7. Please join us after the ride for a happy hour! $1/pint will benefit Charleston Moves.
