Charleston Moves' Annual Celebration of Complete Streets

Join the Cycle of Success!

Transportation is at the crossroads of livability and quality of life. It impacts where people choose (and/or can afford to) live and work, how they feed their families and access green and blue spaces, who they commune with and how they spend down time or exercise. Mobility and access shapes everyone's day-to-day experiences, and how enjoyable those experiences are — and can become.

Charleston Moves has brought about improvements that would not have happened without our steady advocacy and relentless determination. Every project takes years to actualize, and 100% of the time, we are juggling dozens at once. Each is unique, requiring different approaches, stakeholders, ways of bolstering support, and types of coordination. The one constant is that progress is challenging, and we cannot afford to fail. We work hand-in-hand with decision-makers to turn what our community wants (and deserves) into reality: a walkable, bikeable, and accessible region.

Success takes YOU, because progress is people-powered. We use Mobility Month as a rallying point to engage our community on all this important work, ways to plug in, and how to make a difference. And right now, we need your help! Please donate to our campaign to power progress in 2024.

By supporting Charleston Moves, you fund change that benefits all. A very short list of achievements includes:

  • Wonders' Way on the Ravenel Bridge
  • bike racks on CARTA buses
  • increased frequency and free rides over CARTA's North Bridge route
  • buffered bike/ped lanes on the Isle of Palms Connector
  • separated bike lanes on Brigade Street
  • bike lanes, intersection upgrades, and a road diet on Azalea Drive
  • SCDOT's commitment to include a multi-use path on all new river crossings associated with the 526 corridor
  • 2.5 miles of brand new multi-use path along Glenn McConnell (opening soon!)
  • Riverland Drive's new multi-use path (first phase opening soon!) with future connections to hard-fought improvements along Folly Road, Woodland Shores Road and Maybank Highway

With an immense amount accomplished, there is much work to do. Ongoing priorities include shepherding equitable multi-modal improvements through:

  • advocating to fund the Better North Bridge
  • continuous work to support development of the Rethink Folly Road initiative
  • ensuring the Ashley River Bike/Ped Bridge is built, and as quickly as possible
  • cheerleading Mount Pleasant Way segment installations
  • Road Safety Audits for major corridors throughout the county
  • Safety Action Plans for various jurisdictions
  • identifying bike/ped connections related to the 526 widening, in addition to the river crossings
  • advocating for robust bike/ped/transit accommodations throughout Union Pier

Together, we're making moves!
